Almost two million children live in a two-parent family where one parent is not their own, according to a report

According to reports, nearly one third of families include a step-child from a previous relationship.

The Daily Mail reported that the Family Finances study, in which 20,000 people were questioned, shows how the shape of families has been changed by the decline of lifelong marriage and the rise of temporary cohabitation.

Sarah Poulter of Aviva said: “This research shows that there is no ‘normal’ family any more. What was seen as the traditional model is becoming more and more diverse".
