2010 has been an especially philanthropic year for Terry Jones Solicitors and Advocates with a number of employees partaking in events and several others sponsoring them in the name of charity. Staff participated in numerous activities ranging from White Water Rafting to baking and selling cakes, raising funds for both national and local charities.
Some employees were eager to participate in gruelling, physical challenges for sponsorship. This began in June when Kate Scully, Christine Rimmer and Clare Butler from the Prison Law Department raised around £400 for Severn Hospice by participating in a Midnight Walk through Wellington, Admaston, Shawbirch and Apley before finally returning to the starting point TCAT.
July saw the annual Race for Life when several ladies joined the largest women-only fundraising event in the UK. This year the local event was held in Weston Park where the ladies walked, ran or jogged 5k to raise monies for Cancer Research UK.
In September Andy Howarth, John Williams, Bethan Davies and Chloe Shuttleworth cycled the 71 mile journey from Shrewsbury to Aberystwyth, a task which they proudly completed within seven and a half hours raising money for Severn Hospice. Andy commented “the route was relentlessly uphill with a slight but annoying headwind and lashings of squally rain. However our team spirit together with the encouragement of our sponsors steered us onwards to the finishing line.” Their efforts were rewarded by raising in excess of £600 for the Severn Hospice.
In September a team of six from our Shrewsbury Office competed in the annual White Water Rafting race near Bala, North Wales. Not only did the efforts of Pete Oliver, Karen Rooney, Sarah O’Neill, Rachel Mole, Gemma Hughes and Jenni Mitchell raise over £600.00 for the Anthony Nolan Trust Foundation, but also they all received medals as they proudly took seventh place out of a total of fourteen teams. Pete Oliver commented, “The team came together to experience the very wet, adrenaline packed, 2k World Championship course and we tackled the rapids, swirlpools, whirlpools and anything else that got in our way. We are delighted to have raised so much to assist such a worthwhile charity.”
Terry Jones Solicitors and Advocates have also had success in raising money within the office. Susan Jones, Lizzie Charlton and colleagues raised funds for Asthma Research by abstaining from chocolate for Lent whilst the Shrewsbury Office’s Family Department raised money for various local charities by baking and selling cakes throughout the year. The Family girls are renowned for their cake baking skills and everyone looks forward to the deliciously tempting scrumptious delicacies that appear on “Cake Bake Fridays”. On Friday 29th October 2010 staff at the three offices participated in “Wear It Pink Day” raising well over £100 for Breakthrough Breast Cancer Campaign.
Terry Jones commented “I am delighted with the success of the fund raising events held this year, and thrilled the staff have raised over £2000 for such well worth charities.”
