Christmas Gifts for Age UK

Our staff have generously been buying Christmas presents to donate to elderly people across Shropshire, in connection Age UK’s ‘No one should have no one at Christmas’ campaign.

The idea comes from Hannah Lowe of the family department, who also organised a hugely successful Easter Egg collection for Hope House earlier in the year.

Hannah said “We wanted to do something good for charity this Christmas and given the success of our Easter charity event, we thought it would be great to do something similar. We chose Age UK due to their recent publicity raising awareness of the elderly being alone, not just at Christmas but throughout the year.”

In the UK one million elderly people go a month or more without speaking to or seeing a friend, relative, or neighbour, with loneliness being a daily issue for 60,000 older people in the Midlands alone.

The response I’ve had so far has been amazing with lots of contributions of chocolates, biscuits, and also blankets and toiletries; I’m hoping to have over 100 gifts in total.

The presents are to be distributed next week at Age UK day centres throughout Shropshire, with members of staff planning to attend and help hand them out.
