Congratulations go to Ian...

Congratulations to Ian Bowker, our Commercial Property Solicitor who completed the 100 mile Prudential Ride London route on Sunday 30th July, cycling in aid of Compton Hospice.

With a 4.00am wake up call Ian and his companions were ready and waiting at Olympic Park for the 7am start.  Joined by 25,000 other cyclists, Ian tackled the 100 mile journey in thankfully pleasant weather, although a previous night of torrential rain meant negotiating a route covered with surface water.

Ian commented “The first 20 miles took one hour to conquer, and featured sights including the Tower of London, The Shard, and St Paul’s Cathedral before we reached Richmond Park.  The first of a number of challenging hills came almost halfway through the journey at 47 miles.  After a short break to refuel on bananas and energy drinks we continued to Leith Hill, the 58 mile point, and later Box Hill which was 68 miles into the route. Happily Leith Hill was relatively easy when compared to some of the local Shropshire Hills I have cycled, such as the Burway at Church Stretton. Following another short break for water, the route continued through Wimbledon, facing a couple of short, sharp hills before returning to Central London, arriving at the Mall on mile 99 of the journey, and reaching the finish in front on Buckingham Palace at 1pm. Despite so many people attending, the organisation of the event was fantastic and everything went to plan.”

Ian has so far raised £320.00 for Compton Hospice, and donations are still pouring in.  If you would like to support this worthy charity, you can still do so by donating to http://www.virginmoneygiving.com/team/straightouttacomptonh
