March Madness

The last month was incredibly busy for conveyancers across the country following the Government’s changes to Stamp Duty Land Tax.  As you may be aware changes were made to the amount of Stamp Duty Land Tax payable when purchasing a second property, increasing the amount of tax due by three percent above standard rates from 1st April 2016.

With so many purchasers desperate to complete before the new rates were payable there was considerable pressure to get the affected transactions through in time.  We came in to emails sent at midnight.  Client completion monies were arriving 15 minutes before the bank’s cut off for sending CHAPS payments.  Enquiries were raised and answered within a day and Title Reports drafted in double quick time.

Everyone pulled together and worked tirelessly to get the purchases through.  We would like to thank our clients, estate agents and the other solicitors we have dealt with for their cooperation, help and patience through the busy period which we have dubbed “March Madness”!
