Number of cohabiting families continue to rise

The Office for National Statistics has recently released information which confirms that there has been a rise in the UK of opposite sex couples who are unmarried. Since 2003, there has been an increase by 700,000, making it the fastest growing family type with a total of 2.9million families choosing to cohabit rather than marry, with the number of dependent children living in opposite sex cohabiting couples families rising from 1.4 million to 1.9 million.
