Andy attended Cambridge University in 1981 and graduated in BA Classics / Social & Political Sciences and later went on to complete his LPC in 2002 at the Wolverhampton University qualifying as a Solicitor in 2004.  Prior to qualifying Andy worked in the voluntary sector including 12 years with the mental health charity Mind.

Andy has 16 years experience in Mental Health Law and attends Hospital Managers' hearings and Tribunal representation and appeals.  He is approved by the Law Society to represent patients in Mental Health Tribunals and can advise on their rights under the Mental Health Act and other legislation including the Capacity Act.

He is a Member of the Law Society’s approved list of Tribunal representatives; Member of the Mental Health Lawyers’ Association and a Member of Law Society Mental Health Review Panel

People who are liable to detention under the Mental Health Act are entitled to free legal advice, and representation in Tribunal proceedings; legal aid may be available on other matters subject to a means test.
