Sodium Valproate is a drug frequently prescribed to treat epilepsy.

It has been found that this drug, when prescribed to pregnant women, carries a risk of harm to the unborn child. A recent article published by The Times suggests that doctors knew of this risk as early as 1973, however it is still being prescribed today with patients not being advised of the risks.
