The Governments plans to redefine poverty could include children from separated parents

The Department of Work and Pensions is starting a formal consultation on the definition of poverty which currently only includes families on low income. Under the consultation, the Government is planning to look into whether family breakdown, parent’s academic qualification, unemployment and whether children are failing to attend school should be included within the definition of poverty.
