Three Peaks Challenge

Bethan Davies, a Solicitor in our Family and Child Care Department, has recently successfully completed the ‘The Three Peaks Challenge’; a gruelling conquest in which participants must reach the top of Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon within a total time of 24 hours.

Bethan and a team of fifteen friends commenced the trek by climbing Ben Nevis in 4 hours and 10 minutes, in which time they encountered snow, fog and drizzle. Conditions improved when they moved on to Scafell Pike where they enjoyed glorious sunshine as they reached mountain’s peak in 4 hours. However, it was the final portion of the challenge at Snowdon that proved to be the most difficult by far, as they started the climb in the pitch black darkness of 2.00am and were forced to endure rain and strong winds of 35mph.

The mission was ultimately accomplished in 23 hours and 40 minutes, after 29 miles of climbing, 450 miles of travelling by bus and 8,000 calories being burnt.

Bethan completed the challenge in aid of Remembering Rebecca, a charity set up in memory of a child who passed away from Lissencephaly, a condition commonly known as ‘smooth brain syndrome’. Remembering Rebecca helps the families of children living with Lissencephaly by providing them with financial assistance and enabling them to buy special equipment to help improve their child’s quality of life.

Bethan has so far raised over £1000 for this worthy cause.
